Bees buzz and are hard to capture. I have been zooming in on these native, blue-banded bees with little success – they’re so fast!
Then I found this beautiful creature on my window sill.
A native bee, Amegilla cingulata – miraculous in its detail. How I wish it was still buzzing.

Wow! I never knew bees came with blue stripes!

And it’s a beautiful blue … they also seem to prefer blue flowers, Scilla, which makes them harder to spot!

Where have our bees gone….there are far fewer for us to photograph.

There’s a Varroa mite that is sucks out the bee’s blood then puts in a virus, and once it goes back to the hive its spreads it around and basically the whole hive dies.
It’s been destroying bee populations in many countries and this month was found in a hive in north Australia. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-07-08/northern-queen-bee-breeders-on-high-alert-for-varroa-mite/7580408. This is really serious – No bees, no food!

So sad about the bees–we need them! The following quote is attributed to Albert Einstein. “If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would only have four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man.

One of my backyard trees is full of blossom. It’s snowing petals as hundreds of bees collect pollen. The whole tree buzzes!
Thanks, Naomi.

I love listening to the bees in my raspberry patch–it too hums with life, and I love to hear it.
